Pet Policy

Does SkyWest Airlines allow Pets?

SkyWest will try to relocate your pet to the destination. But it wants you to be aware of scammers. To avoid them it is best to use the official website or go through a reputed IATA-approved travel agency. The airline doesn’t let you book extra seats for your pet but you may check them in the hold. There are restrictions on pet carrier size on SkyWest. The airline will most likely reject an oversized kennel. Here is how the airline can help with relocation of a pet.

  • Check the pet in hold or carry the pet in cabin.
  • A pet carrier is considered as a personal item which can fit beneath your seat.
  • Up to 2 pet carriers of small or medium size can be checked in hold.

Looks like you have not understood the entire SkyWest Airlines pet policy? No worries, our Air1Network blog will discuss everything in detail.

How do I add a pet when booking a SkyWest Flight?

SkyWest doesn’t handle pet relocation on its own. All the flights of SkyWest are marketed and operated by the partner airlines viz. Delta, United, American Airlines and Alaska. So, the pet policy of SkyWest Airlines will be governed by the policies of these airlines depending on your itinerary. But there are some common steps.

  • Make a reservation for the pet - You will have to call the airline and enquire about the availability. Booking a space for the pet is usually recommended up to 48 hours before departure.
  • Arrive at the check-in counter on the day of arrival - Online check-in is not allowed because the pet carrier will have to be tagged.
  • Pay the charges for your pet - SkyWest Airlines pet fee is to be paid for checking the pet in hold or carrying it in the cabin.

SkyWest doesn’t take responsibility for passengers who do not use its website or its partner airlines’ website for booking a pet. For assistance you can visit or contact Air1Network.

Do I need documents for adding a pet on SkyWest?

You may have to prove that your pet is in perfect health condition. If this requires documents, you will have to carry them with you. The documents needed may vary depending on the destination. Pets younger than 8 weeks may not be allowed. Here are the documents you will need.

A Health Certificate - Get your pet examined by a veterinarian before travelling.

Rabies vaccination - You must get the pet vaccinated before departure.

CDC import form - This is needed if your pet is coming in US from another country.

US DOT form - SkyWest Airlines service dog policy requires you to fill up this form.

What are the charges for adding pet on SkyWest Flight?

SkyWest doesn’t set its own charges. The charges will depend on the airline operating and marketing the flight. SkyWest Airlines flights are operated and marketed by its partner airlines viz. Delta, United, American Airlines and Alaska. The typical SkyWest Airlines pet fee in the cabin is around $125 per way. For pets as checked baggage, it could potentially go up to $200 per way. You may call the customer care of SkyWest to know the applicable charges for an upcoming flight. Here are a few things you must remember about charges.

  • Charges for checking the pet in hold - These charges may be comparable to excess baggage charges.
  • Charges for bringing the pet in cabin - Fee may be lesser but you will have to find another place for your personal item.
  • No charges if you need the dog for special assistance - Service dogs are not chargeable under SkyWest service dog policy.

SkyWest asks you to beware of shady elements promising transportation of pets. If someone asks you to wire money, this may be a red signal. Feel free to visit or contact Air1Network for assistance with relocating your pet.
