What is Air France Pet Policy?

You may be able to bring the pet in cabin or check it in hold. In the cabin, the pet carrier must be adjusted beneath the seat. Here are a few things you must remember about the pet policy of Air France.

  • Pet fee - Charges for transporting pets in the hold are typically higher.
  • Restrictions on breeds - Ferocious breeds of dogs are not allowed in cabin or hold.
  • Availability - Transportation of pets is subject to availability. A booking request must be made 48 hours before departure.

How do I Add a Pet on Air France? 

You can call the customer service to find whether there is space available for a pet. You must do it up to 48 hours before departure. The sooner you call, the better your chances. Because space for pets on a flight is limited. On the day of travel, you will have to report at the check-in desk with complete documents. The agent will calculate the charges which will apply. If the combined weight of the pet carrier and pet is less than 8kg, it may be eligible for travel in cabin. Here are a few tips on adding a pet on Air France.

  • Put the pet in a kennel approved by Air France - Make sure you get a kennel made of plastic or fiberglass with an opening for placing a bowl inside kennel.
  • Restricted breeds on Air France - Attack dogs similar to Mastiffs & dogs with morphological similarity with Rottweilers. 
  • Pets must be at least 15 weeks old at the time of travel - Under Air France animal policypups or kittens are not allowed.

What are the Pet charges on Air France?

Air France pet cost goes up with the distance covered by a flight. You may be charged as little as 70 euros within France. The charges for pet travel within Europe may be up to 200 euros. For inter-continental flights, the charges may go up to 400 euros. The charges to be paid for in-cabin pet travel are typically less. Take a look at the charges when Air France allow dogs in cabin.

  • For flights within Caribbean - 125 euros
  • For flights between Europe and North Africa - 200 euros
  • For flights to North America - 200 euros

Does my pet require documentation on Air France?

If you are about to put the pet in hold, you will have to give an undertaking. This undertaking is a consent to the way your pet will be handled by Air France. If your pet will travel with you in the cabin, you will have to submit the details of the pet carrier. The weight of the pet carrier and pet must be less than 8kg to be eligible. Documents required for your pet will depend on the destination. Here are the documents which may be required under Air France International pet policy.

  • A valid passport - Dogs and cats to travel on Air France will require it. This passport issued by a certified veterinarian proves that it is vaccinated.
  • Microchipping of the pet - For identification of the pet you need to get the pet microchipped.  
  • CDC import form - You will need this form when your pet is travelling to a US destination.
