How to Get an Upgrade on Porter Airlines?

Upgrades on Porter Airlines will give you extra comfort. Enjoy snacks and drinks while on flight. Because Porter Airlines upgrade may let you fly on PorterReserve seats. These seats give more priveleges. The upgrade process can be completed in the below ways.

  • New bookings - At the end of the booking process, you will see whether an upgrade is available.
  • Existing bookings - Assign a PorterReserve certificate after signing into your VIPorter account.
  • Pay Porter seat upgrade cost - Basic ticket holders may pay $50 for Basic Express add-on.

Can I Buy an Upgrade on Porter Airlines?

You may not be able to buy an upgrade on Porter Airlines. But you must have VIPorter account to become eligible for a Porter Airlines seat upgrade. Plus, you must have flown on Porter and spent a significant amount of money on extras. The money you spend will eventually be converted into ‘qualifying spend’. The ‘qualifying spend’ will ultimately make you eligible for a PorterReserve certificate. You must know a few key things about ‘qualifying spend’.

  • A qualifying spend of $3000 in the first year - This qualifies you as an Avid Traveller and you are eligible for 1 PorterReserve certificate.
  • From the second year, you need $2000 only - You earn 1 PorterReserve certificate. 
  • Carry over of the additional 'qualifying spend' - Don't worry if you do not use 'qualifying spend'; it will be carried over to the next year.

Is Upgrade Available for all Porter Airlines Flyers?

Porter Airlines may politely decline a request for upgrade. Upgrade is only available for flyers who have booked tickets with Standard, Flexible and Freedom fares. Basic ticket holders can buy a Basic Express add-on. They need to pay a minimum of $50 for this. A standard carry-on bag and electronic boarding pass are assured. Basic ticket holders can buy the add-on anytime via My Bookings, during web check-in or at the airport. Here are a few conditions the airline stipulates for you to get an upgrade.

  • Upgrade to PorterReserve - Since there is no business class at present, Porter seat upgrade to business class is not an option.
  • Only passengers who booked standard, flexible and freedom fare with cash. - You will not be eligible for an upgrade if you used your VIPorter points to book a ticket.
  • Upgrade bids are not accepted - Porter Airlines upgrade bid is not a standard way of getting an upgrade.

How do I Qualify for an Upgrade on Porter?

You will have to earn PorterReserve certificates to move from PorterClassic to PorterReserve seat. Porter Airlines upgrade seats will be given when you apply these certificates either when you are making a new booking or with an existing booking. You will be able to apply it if you already have a VIPorter account.

Here are the steps that will help you qualify for an upgrade.

  • Get a headstart - You must become an Avid Traveller to get a headstart. With a qualifying spend of $3000, you will be eligible for a PorterReserve certificate.
  • From next year onwards you need a qualifying spend of $2000 - Avid Travellers will need to have at least $2000 each year.
  • Extras will carry over to the next year - Any additional or unused ‘qualifying spend’ of a year will get carried over to the next year.
